For high-quality painting of a large number of products in production facilities, paint spraying and drying chambers are used. For flawless painting and smooth operation of the chamber it is necessary to observe certain safety standards. An indispensable element of these measures is the use of special filters. Good filtration guarantees perfect coloring of products.

Varieties of filters

In paint booths, the air contains large amounts of paint particles, solvent vapors, and dust. This is dangerous to the health of workers and can cause fire. Paint booth filters are needed to protect people from dangerous poisoning and the plant from fire. They must effectively clean both the air entering and leaving the OSC. There are several groups of filters:

  • floor – very dense, capable of preventing paint particles, mist and soot from entering the air;
  • ceiling filters – they are durable and are made of artificial structured fibers that absorb dust;
  • prefilters are installed outside the OSC in the ducts near the fans to clean the air entering the box, and allow to prolong the life of the ceiling filters;
  • labyrinth varieties are made of corrugated cardboard, which favors the settling of volatile particles on its walls;
  • carbon filters are used very widely, are made on the basis of activated carbon, can effectively retain even poisonous vapors and gases, are relatively inexpensive;
  • pocket filters – disposable and sewn from a special textile stretched over a frame.

In addition, a distinction is made between coarse and fine filters for the paint booth. The first detain large particles. The latter are effective against microorganisms and aerosols with finer fractions.

Recommendations of experts

Experts advise covering the entire floor or ceiling surface with filters so that it is easy to replace a clogged filter with a new one. It is necessary to follow the instructions for use of filters exactly, as some of them have only one sticky filter side, which should be oriented towards the air flow. In order to prevent the filter from clogging even before starting work, experts advise to blow the box well before installing or replacing it. Not all varieties can be installed in the ducts – they will too quickly clog and affect the level of pressure and speed in the painting and drying chamber, thus violating the technology of coloring products.

The best results can only be obtained by using sophisticated filtration systems that utilize several types of filters. At each stage of air purification the elements used will capture increasingly smaller particles of volatile substances. As a result, the air in the WSC will meet all sanitary and hygienic standards, and at the same time it will be possible to save significantly, even using expensive filter parts.

Peculiarities of filter replacement

The filters will eventually be used up and will need to be replaced. If paint has started to settle on the walls of the WSC and equipment elements, and the filters have darkened, it is time to change them. As a rule of thumb, this should be done at least twice a year. The frequency of filter replacement depends on the specifics of the filtration system and the workload of the spraying and drying chamber. After normal blowing out, the performance of coarse cleaning elements will be restored, contaminants will be eliminated, and they can be operated further. However, filters for fine filters must be changed completely, and used ones must be disposed of.
